Yield: Each bottle (5 litres) is mixed 25 litres of water, so yield per bottle is 30 litres (before ice expansion during freezing of ~ 9%), therefore 1 carton yields 60 litres. (With ice expansion: 65.4 litres. This is equivalent to 198 serves of 11 ounce / 330 mL)

Mixing is simple:
  • First measure and pour 10 litres of clean drinking water into a mixing bucket/container.
  • Open Frutina Slush Concentrate bottle and add 2 litres to the water.
  • Stir well and pour into slush machine, then freeze down. You can also mix extra back-up stock and keep in the refridgerator to freeze down later. Refridgerated mix will freeze down faster and speed up time to serve.

TIP: You can also recycle your old Frutina bottles. First accurately measure 8.33 ml Frutina Slush Concentrate and pour it into an empty, clean, sanitized Frutina Bottle, then accurately mark the level in the bottle with a permanent marker. Then fill the bottle with clean water, shake and pour it into your slush machine. Now, you have a perfectly graded  bottle for everyday use!

MORE TIPS:

  1. Always mix up back-up stock and keep it in the refrigerator. Unrefrigerated, freshly prepared slush using water at ~ 16ºC can take up to an hour to freeze down. The aim is to minimize freeze-down time.
  2. Never allow your slush machine to run below 2/3rds full. That way, when you top it up, it will freeze down quickly.
  3. At the end of your trading day, switch your machine to ´REFRIGERATE´ which will allow the ice crystals to melt overnight, but keep it regridgerated. Over time, ice crystals grow bigger to the point where the texture isn´t nice and smooth any more. By allowing it to melt overnight and re-freezing the slush in the morning, your testure will always be great!
  4. The sugar in the slush acts as an anti-freeze. Never dilute slush base with extra water as this will allow the diluted slush to freeze solid resulting in breaking or damaging your machines working parts like the gearbox and auger.

EQUIPMENT:

  • What to consider before buying a slush machine?
    • Quality and after sales service. Buy a reliable machine from a reputable company to ensure availability of spare parts and quick service.
    • Demand and Capacity. Slush machines are available in 5, 10 and 12 litre bowls. Then you get 1, 2 and 3-bowl machines. How many serves will you do over your busiest period? In what space of time?
    • Your offering. How many different flavours and products do you want to offer your customers? Perhaps 2 colours of slush plus a refrigerated orange juice...? Then you need a 3-bowl machine!
    • Application. Slush machines have refridgeration mode (for juices for instance) and freezing mode for freezing slush or ice coffee.
    • Is it better to RENT one or LEASE one? (typical rent /lease periods are 36 or 48 months)
      • With renting, it is an off-balance sheet expense and the payments are tax deductible.
      • With leasing, you can claim interest back and depreciate your asset.

CLEANING & SANITISING:

It is important to follow the cleaning and sanitising procedures and frequency specified by your equipment supplier.

Average cleaning cycles for milk-based products like iced coffee is 48 hours and weekly for all other slush products.
